In a major achievement, Chhattisgarh girl Tikeshwari Sahu bagged gold medal in the World Cup Thai Boxing Championship held in Goa from February 1 to 3. Tikeshwari won the gold for India in 44-kg weight group. Apart from India, UAE, Sudan, France, Yaman and South Arabia were the other nations participated in the championship. In the final, Tikeshwari defeated Sunita Kumari of Bihar by 3-0.
Earlier, in the semi final, Tikeshwari defeated her Indian counterpart Maharashtra’s Sapna Suryavanshi by 3-0 to secure a berth in the final. The significance of the semi final and final was that Tikeshwari opponents were heavier than her, but she managed to overcome the hurdles. It is worthwhile to mention, Tikeshwari is a part-time sports teacher at Shri Gujrati H S School and is currently pursuing her first year at Durga College. Chhattisgarh Thai Boxing Association Anis Memon and others have congratulated Tikeshwari on her achievement.
