Self-sufficiency of agriculture is not limited to self-sufficiency of food grains: Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the educational and administrative building of Rani Laxmi Bai Central Agricultural University in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar were also present at the ceremony. Through video conferencing, the PM inaugurated the university building by pressing the button. 

In his address on this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘Once Rani Laxmibai roared on the land of Bundelkhand – I will not give my Jhansi. Today a new roar is needed – Meri Jhansi-Mera Bundelkhand will put all its strength to make the self-reliant India campaign successful, will write a new chapter. Agriculture has a big role in it.

The PM said, ‘When we talk of self-sufficiency in agriculture, it is not limited to food only. Rather it is a matter of self-sufficiency of the entire economy of the village. It is a mission to bring value addition to the products produced by agriculture in the country and market in the country and the world.

He said that the goal of self-sufficiency in agriculture is to make farmers a producer as well as entrepreneurs. When farmers and agriculture move forward in the form of industry, employment and self-employment opportunities are going to be ready in the village and near the village on a large scale. 6 years ago, where there was only 1 Central Agricultural University in the country, today 3 Central Agricultural Universities are working in the country. 

The PM further said … ‘Apart from this, three more National Institutes IARI-Jharkhand, IARI-Assam, and Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Institute are being established in Motihari. Be it drone technology, artificial intelligence technology, modern agricultural equipment, young researchers like you, young scientists will have to work continuously to make it more and more useful in the country’s agriculture.

The Prime Minister said, ‘There will be two benefits from this. One benefit will be that the natural understanding associated with farming in the children of the village will be expanded. The second benefit will be that he will be able to give more information to his family about farming and the technology related to it, trade and business.

The PM further said that it is also necessary to take education related to agriculture, its practical application to school level. Efforts are to introduce the subject of agriculture at the middle school level at the village level. About 10 lakh poor sisters of Bundelkhand have been given free gas cylinders during this period. Thousands of crores of rupees have been deposited in the Jan Dhan account of millions of sisters:

PM Modi said, “ The people of Bundelkhand are also strong against Corona. The government has also tried that people should have least difficulty. In order to keep the poor stove burning, free ration is being given to crores of poor and rural families of UP.

Earlier, Modi had said in a tweet on Friday that he would inaugurate the colleges and administrative buildings of Rani Laxmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi on Saturday. He said that this will improve the infrastructure of education and along with agriculture, will help in cutting-edge research in farmer welfare.
