Glenn Phillips records century, New Zealand wins T20 series

With the help of young wicketkeeper batsman Glenn Phillips’ record century innings, New Zealand beat West Indies by 73 runs in the second T20 match to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series. Similar to the mountainous target of 239 runs put by New Zealand, the Windies team could score 166 runs in 9 overs.

The Windies won the toss and decided to bowl first. New Zealand scored 108 from 51 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes and 238 for 3 with Devon Conway’s unbeaten 65 off 37 balls. Conway hit 4 fours and 4 sixes in 37 balls in his half-century innings.

Phillips and Conway shared a 184-run partnership for the third wicket. Opener Martin Guptil (34) off 23 balls while Tim Seifert was out for 18 runs off 13 balls. Oshane Thomas, Fabien Allen and Kieron Pollard took one wicket each from the Windies.

Chasing a target of 239 runs, the Windies team lost wickets at regular intervals. For him, Captain Pollard scored the highest 28 runs while Shimron Hetmyer contributed 25 while Chemo Paul contributed 26 not out. Myers scored 20 and Allen scored 15 runs.
