Maoist couple from Bijapur district surrenders before Telangana Police

A Maoist couple, allegedly involved in many violent incidents, has surrendered before the security forces at Warangal in neighbouring Telangana.
As per Chhattisgarh police, the Maoist couple surrendered in front of Warangal police commissioner P Pramod Kumar on Wednesday. They left the oragnisation citing betrayal by the Maoists under whose influence they had joined the militia. The Maoist couple, identified as Annaram and his wife Podium Devi, hails from Bijapur in Chhattisgarh.
“32-year-old Annaram said that after joining the left group he expected that the CPI Maoists would do some welfare work for Tribal community to safeguard the interests of forest dwellers. However, they were disappointed to see that Maoists were anti-development”, a police official said.
Annaram was the Commander of the Wajedu Venkatapuram Area Committee of Telangana, Communication in-charge of the Telangana State Committee and a member of the Action Team Commander. And his wife Podium Devi was working as a member in Maoist Communication Department.
Annaram was impressed by the speeches of Maoist leader Komuriya Komuraiya in the year 2005. Following which, at the age of 17, he joined the guerrilla squad of Maoist group. Till 2010, he assisted movement of Maoists at borders of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Then he was made a member of the Central Committee of Maoists.
As per police, there are more than six cases registered against Annaram.
He was involved in Damoh firing where four policemen were martyred in 2007.
