The city of Balod, situated on the banks of the Tandula River, is inhabited by extremely beautiful people. Balod Durg was separated from the district in 2012 to form a new district. Along with the historical and scenic spots in Balod, there is an amazing confluence of the folk culture of Chhattisgarh. Like the clean water of the Tandula reservoir, the people here are very clean and friendly by nature. The history of Balod has also been very glorious. It was ruled by the Kalchuri rulers in ancient times. In the latter period, it was also ruled by the local Gond rulers. Balod has remnants of many temples and fort built during the period of Gond kings.
The remains of the ancient fort still exist in Balodara area of Balod. The 20-feet-high entrance of the fort at Budhatalab is still safe today. This gate, like the four walls of the fort, would have fallen long ago. The roots of the banyan tree hold the entrance to the fort. In fact, trees also bear the responsibility of saving our existence along with our historical heritage. Balod was one of the new districts which was formed in 2012 and became the 27th district of Chhattisgarh. Balod district came into existence on 1 January 2012. It was notified as a civil district on 1 January 2012, although the revenue district was declared from 10 January 2012.
Earlier it was a part of Durg district. Balod currently has a college, a court, a CHC (community health center), and a prison. In front of the entrance gate, the image of Lord Ganesha is inscribed on the frontal image, which implies that the erstwhile dynasties must have followed the Ganapatya religion. Mounted from above the gateway, the enemy could not enter inside, so a notched wall has been made on the top. Such a structure is found in the Red Fort of Delhi. There must have been a very large wooden door in the entrance, because the stone occupants have been made on both sides. These occupants were used for doors. Today, banyan roots appear trapped in them.
