GUWAHATI: The Assam unit of the Congress has decided to snap its ties with minority-based All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).The two were constituents of the grand alliance of opposition parties formed ahead of the recent Assembly elections. “The continuous and mysterious praising of the BJP by the AIUDF leadership has affected the public perception of the Congress. After a long discussion, the Congress core committee members decided that the AIUDF can no longer remain an alliance partner of the Mahajot,” the Congress said in a statement.
Discussions were also held on the Congress’s alliance with the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). “Since the BPF has already expressed its unwillingness in various forums to remain in the Mahajot, therefore, the Pradesh Congress president has been given full authority to take a decision on the matter and inform the party high command,” the statement said.
