Karkare was a victim of terrorism plus something, as doubt created by Union Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay on Dec 17, 08.
What is that ‘plus something’?
Antulay’s ‘Plus something’?
Union Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay on Dec 17, 08 has raised doubts over the killing of Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare by Pakistani terrorists, suggesting a link with the Malegaon blasts that were investigated by him. He said “Karkare was investigating some cases in which "there are non-Muslims also", an apparent reference to the Malegaon blasts case in which sadhvi Pragya Thakur and a Lt Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit were 11 persons to be arrested.
Mr. Antulay at that time demanded an investigation into the circumstances leading to the killing of ATS chief Hemant Karkare and two other senior police officials. Why he is silent now?

Shishir Karkare’s ‘Plus something’?
The CNN-IBN television channel in its investigative report said Hemant Karkare, the chief of the Mumbai Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), fell to the terrorists' gun shots because his bulletproof vest was of poor quality. It quoted his brother Shishir Karkare as saying that he had seen blood on the jacket, which, he said, proved that the AK-47 bullets had gone through it.
Shishir Karkare alleged that his brother Hemant Karkare would probably not have died in the Mumbai attacks last year but for the inferior jackets
CM of Maharashtra called Shirish’s allegation baseless
In the line of opposition fire for allegedly providing sub-standard bulletproof jackets to the Mumbai police, including those who fell to terrorists' bullets during 26/11, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan June 5, 09 said they were "wild allegations".
On June 4, 09, Maharashtra opposition leader Ramdas Kadam had criticized the state government over the "poor quality" jackets and even offered his bullet-proof jacket as a "gift" to the chief minister and he demanded a judicial probe into the purchase of bullet-proof jackets.
The BJP spokesperson Shri Ravishankar said: "Hemant Karkare's brother Shishir Karkare had seen his brother in the hospital and this is a direct evidence of the (low quality of) wretched vests
Where is bulletproof jacket purchase file?
At a press conference, party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad now alleged that a file on purchase of bullet-proof jackets for the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Mumbai was “missing.”
BJP for bulletproof vests scam high-level enquiry
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a high-level inquiry into the allegation that the Maharashtra government provided sub-standard bulletproof jackets to Mumbai Police officials including those who were killed while battling the 26/11 terrorists.
The Opposition Leader L K Advani had demanded in the Lok Sabha on June 5, 09 during his speech on the Presidential Address that an inquiry commission should be appointed to investigate the 26/11 attacks which was rejected by Home Minister P Chidambaram.
No commission to probe 26/11: Govt
The government on June 5, 09 rejected the Opposition's demand for appointing an Inquiry Commission into the 26/11 Mumbai attacks saying it were "surprising" that it was being made six months after the terror strike.

A month ago, Kavita Karkare had expressed fears that since the 26/11 terror attack, no IPS officer was keen to take up the reins of the anti-terrorist squad that her slain husband Hemant Karkare headed. "Look at the situation in the IPS. After the death of my husband in the worst-ever terror attack, no IPS officer is prepared to take up the assignment,'' Kavita Karkare had observed.
No IPS man is ready to take ATS job!!
On June 4, 09, Maharashtra home minister Jayant Patil confirmed the fears expressed by Kavita Karkare, saying, he was still looking for an IPS officer to head the ATS. "It's a fact that for the last six months, the post of ATS head is lying vacant. I am sure we will fill it up within a week. I am in the process of selecting an IPS officer for ATS,'' Patil told TOI.
