ICC Rankings | Virat Kohli replaces Steve Smith as No.1 Test batsman

Must Read

Virat Kohli’s century against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens closed the gap between him and Steve Smith, and the Aussie required a great series against Pakistan to race ahead in the rankings race. However, with two scores of 4 and 37, Smith is now in the second position. But things can change for better if the Australian can correct the wrongs in the New Zealand home series that starts later this month.

However, David Warner has jumped 12 places to enter the top-five in the rankings after his incredible triple-hundred in the second Test against Pakistan in Adelaide. The Sydneysider remained not out on 335 in the innings, helping Australia to an easy innings victory. Joe Root, who had been dropped out of the top 10, has also made significant gains after a double century against New Zealand, climbing up four places to enter the top-10.

While Kohli, Rahane, and Pujara managed to be within the top-10, Rohit Sharma, who entered the chart thanks to his stunning South Africa takedown, has been dropped out of it after a poor Bangladesh series. Mayank Agarwal is at the 12th position whereas his opening partner Rohit occupies 16th position on the table.
