Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that Minimata’s personality was matchless. Minimata, who has a simple and easy-going personality, devoted her whole life to human service. To protect the civil rights of Dalits, he played an important role in getting the Prevention of Untouchability Act passed in the Parliament. He raised his voice in opposition to child marriage and dowry system from society to Parliament. Mr. Baghel was addressing Minimata Memorial Day and Pratibha Samman ceremony at Shaheed Memorial Building in Raipur today. On this occasion, he released a special cover issued by the Department of Posts on the 50th death anniversary of the first woman MP Minimata. The program was organized by Guru Ghasidas Sahitya and Sanskriti Akademi, Progressive Chhattisgarh Satnami Samaj. The Chief Minister further said in the program that Minimata has given a new height to women’s identity. Due to his strong leadership ability, he had a distinct identity among the national leaders. Not only the Dalit oppressed society, all sections had accepted his leadership. Minimata reached the top of popularity due to social friendly works. As the first woman MP of Chhattisgarh, she will always be remembered for the work done for the upliftment of Dalits and women. The Chief Minister said that Minimata actively participated in the work of progress and betterment of all sections including social reforms. He had good knowledge of Assamese, English, Bengali, Hindi and Chhattisgarhi languages. She was the embodiment of truth, non-violence and love. He was married to Guru Agamdas, the fourth descendant of Gurubaba Ghasidas ji. After marriage, she came to Chhattisgarh from Assam as Guru Mata, since then she devoted her whole life for the development of this region. After independence, the first election to the Lok Sabha was held in 1951-52. Minimata was a member of the Lok Sabha from 1951 to 1971 as an MP. She was elected the first woman MP of Lok Sabha from the Bilaspur-Durg-Raipur reserved seat in undivided Madhya Pradesh. After this, she reached the Lok Sabha after winning elections four times from Janjgir Lok Sabha constituency reserved for Scheduled Castes. In the program, Urban Administration and Labor Minister Dr. Shivkumar Dahria, while addressing the program, renamed Giroudpuri on behalf of Satnami Samaj as Guru Ghasidas Giroudpuri Dham. He thanked the Chief Minister for doing so. In the program, the Chief Minister also honored the talented students and people who did excellent work of Satnami society.
