Even after one year of the Panchayat elections in Chhattisgarh, there are 66 Gram Panchayats where the post of sarpanch is vacant. Actually, most gram panchayats are reserved for scheduled castes or tribes. It is a matter of interest that the candidates belonging to the caste do not live in these villages. In such a situation, the work of the Panchayati Government is going on in these villages without a sarpanch.
Due to the system of voter reservation, voters have not been able to choose their sarpanch. Not only this, the result of the reservation has been that no nomination for Panches has been filed in 874 reserved wards of the state. Even after a year, the commission did not take interest in holding re-election here. According to the information, due to delimitation of these villages or displaced villagers, such a situation has come up.The posts of Panch and Sarpanches in the villages adjoining the capital are lying vacant due to reservation. Toman Sahu, who is working as caretaker sarpanch in Jaundi Gram Panchayat of Abhanpur development block, says that with the cooperation of the villagers, they are able to do some work, in the rest of the village no voters belong to SC (Scheduled Caste) class. On examining in the village, there was also huge anger among the voters here due to no election. The village has 12 wards and 1094 voters. Half of the population here is from OBC (Other Backward Classes).
