Ashutosh Tiwari, Jagdalpur. 12 years have passed since Jhiram Naxalite attack in Darbha Valley of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, but that dreadful scene is still alive in people’s minds. This horrific attack on the Congress’ Parivartan Yatra on 25 May 2013 shook the state’s politics and society. A total of 31 people were killed, including veteran Congress leaders Mahendra Karma, Nandkumar Patel, his son Dinesh Patel, Vidya Charan Shukla, while many others were seriously injured in the attack. On Sunday, on the 12th anniversary of this tragedy, Congress leaders reached the Jhiram Valley Shaheed Memorial in Lalbagh and paid tribute to the martyrs. But amidst this tribute meeting, politics was also hot over the bad state of the memorial, where the Congress accused the BJP and the Municipal Corporation of negligence, while the BJP retaliated by accusing the Congress of softening the Naxalites.
Congress accused of negligence
District Congress President Sushil Maurya targeted the BJP and the Municipal Corporation and said that on 25 May 2022, the then Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the martyr memorial. But in just three years, this monument has reached a shabby condition. It has been promised for two months that the memorial will be repaired, but no concrete work has been done so far. When we arrived to express their resentment, the broken parts were covered with curtains. This is an insult to the martyrs.
District Congress President Sushil Maurya BJP made serious allegations against Congress
On the other hand, Jagdalpur Mayor Sanjay Pandey retaliated on behalf of BJP. He said that those who do not participate in the tricolor journey are talking about the honor of the martyrs today. He claimed that Naxalites have got support in increasing their strength in the Congress government. When the BJP government was formed, more than 400 Naxalites were killed and when action was taken, the Congress began to hurt. He said that the municipal corporation is doing the work of grooming the martyr memorial, but the Congress is only doing politics on this issue. He also alleged that the Congress is seen standing with the Naxalites who killed Congress leaders.
