A SpiceJet passenger on a Mumbai to Bengaluru flight endured a highly unusual experience, spending the entire journey locked inside the aircraft’s lavatory. The airline has apologized to the affected passenger and reportedly offered a refund, but the incident has captivated public attention.
The passenger was finally freed after the flight landed at Bengaluru airport. Ground staff and engineers promptly responded, opening the malfunctioning toilet door. The incident occurred on a Monday night, the Mumbai-Bengaluru flight departed with a two-hour delay, taking off at 2:10 AM instead of the scheduled 10:55 PM. A passenger seated in seat 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff and found themselves trapped due to a jammed door lock, leading to mid-air difficulties.
Despite the passenger’s attempts and the crew’s efforts, the door remained stuck. The crew then devised a note to console the passenger, slipped through the door gap, urging them to remain calm and seated until the plane landed in Bengaluru. The note’s photo circulated widely on social media, drawing amusement and comments on its handwriting. The flight landed in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. Airport engineers subsequently opened the door. The airline has expressed regret and issued an apology for the situation.
