Expectations were high for ‘Thug Life,’ the reunion of director Mani Ratnam and actor Kamal Haasan after their previous collaboration ‘Nayakan’ in 1987. Despite initial excitement, the film’s release in Karnataka was halted due to controversy surrounding Haasan’s remarks on the Kannada language.
The movie has received mixed reviews and has underperformed at the box office. Here’s a look at the box office collection of ‘Thug Life’ over its first three days.
‘Thug Life’ Box Office Collection Day 3:
Kamal Haasan’s film started strong but experienced a significant 53.87% drop on Day 2. A minor increase was observed on Day 3 following the decline.
Early estimates suggest the film earned Rs7.50 crore on Day 3, bringing the total domestic collection to Rs30.15 crore. The day-wise breakdown shows Rs15.5 crore on Day 1 and Rs7.15 crore on Day 2. Tamil Nadu contributed the most with Rs13.35 crore on the opening day, followed by Telugu and Hindi markets.
Industry analysts anticipate momentum over the extended weekend, even though the Karnataka ban is projected to cause a loss of Rs 35-40 crore in gross collections and Rs 12-15 crore in distributor share.
The controversy began at the audio launch in Chennai. Haasan paid tribute to his Tamil roots and then addressed Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar, stating that the Kannada language originated from Tamil.
The cast includes Trisha, Silambarasan, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.
