A recent report has revealed a significant decline in the sex ratio in Bihar, raising concerns about the declining number of girls in the state. According to the Civil Registration System (CRS), the sex ratio at birth in Bihar is among the lowest in the country. The report, based on data from 2022, indicates that for every 1,000 boys born in Bihar, only 891 girls were born. This represents a decrease from 2020 when the ratio was 964 girls per 1,000 boys, and from 2021 when the ratio was 908 girls per 1,000 boys. While Bihar’s record in terms of overall female births is relatively better, ranking third in the country, the declining sex ratio at birth is a worrying trend.
