OpenAI is reportedly nearing completion of its first custom AI training chip, with an anticipated launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. This application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is designed to optimize the training of AI models and reduce reliance on third-party hardware, such as Nvidia GPUs. The chip is being developed in collaboration with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC using a 3nm process. While mass production is slated for 2026, a limited release in Q4 2025 could position OpenAI as a significant player in the AI hardware landscape. The move aligns with the trend of tech giants like Google and Amazon developing their own chips to meet the growing demands of AI.
