A new statue of Lord Ram, standing 51 feet tall, is set to be installed at the Kaushalya Dham in Chandkhuri, approximately 25 kilometers from Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This sacred site, considered the maternal home of Lord Ram, will soon be adorned with the magnificent statue. Crafted by renowned sculptor Deepak Vishwakarma and his team from Gwalior, the statue is made of sandstone and has been constructed in three parts. It will be transported to Kaushalya Dham via trailers and assembled on-site. The project has already incurred an expenditure of approximately 72 to 74 lakh rupees.
Sculptor Deepak Vishwakarma mentioned that the work was temporarily halted due to payment delays, but the statue is now fully prepared and will arrive in Chhattisgarh within a week.
Notably, the Kaushalya Mata Temple in Chandkhuri is the only temple in the country where the idol of Mata Kaushalya is depicted holding Lord Ram in her lap. This temple dates back to the 10th century, and its natural surroundings enhance its uniqueness.
In 2021, during the Congress rule, a 51-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram was installed, which BJP leaders had criticized over its design and facial expression. Brijmohan Agrawal, who served as the Religious Affairs Minister in the BJP government, had announced the installation of a new statue, which is now becoming a reality. The installation of the new statue is expected to further enhance the splendor of Kaushalya Dham.
