With the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, the presence of a ‘Doomsday plane’ in Washington has raised questions. The E-4B Nightwatch, designed to safeguard top US officials during a nuclear event, landed at St Andrew’s Air Force Base. This aircraft, also known as the National Airborne Operations Centre (NAOC), serves as a mobile command center for the President and other high-ranking officials. Capable of withstanding nuclear blasts, cyberattacks, and missile strikes, the plane can accommodate a crew of 112 and has a range of over 7,000 miles. Former President Trump has expressed concern about escalating tensions, hinting at potential actions while maintaining a degree of uncertainty. He also voiced disappointment over Iran’s decision not to pursue a deal, suggesting an opportunity missed.
