In a move just months before the upcoming elections in Bihar, the state government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has announced a substantial increase in social security pensions. The announcement, made by the Chief Minister himself, will see the pension amount for widows, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities rise significantly.
Currently, beneficiaries receive ₹400 per month. This has been increased to ₹1100 per month. The increased pension will be effective from July, and the payments will be credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts by the 10th of each month. This decision is expected to benefit a significant number of recipients.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of senior citizens and the government’s commitment to ensuring they live with dignity. The announcement comes as political parties gear up for the state assembly elections, with the ruling coalition highlighting its achievements.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary also praised the move, calling it historic. The announcement is seen as a strategic move in the lead-up to the elections, with various parties actively campaigning and making promises to the public.
