West Asia analyst Waiel Awwad believes India possesses the capacity to actively contribute to halting the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Speaking on Sunday, Awwad, a veteran journalist specializing in the region, discussed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent communication with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Awwad highlighted the need for India to utilize its position to reduce tensions in the area. He pointed out the potential negative impacts of the war on India, specifically concerning food and oil security, and the significant revenue generated by India in the GCC and Persian Gulf regions. Awwad also emphasized India’s leadership role, as demonstrated by hosting the G20 summit, which he sees as a basis for proactive intervention. Prime Minister Modi, in his discussions with President Pezeshkian, expressed deep concern about the recent escalations and called for immediate de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy. The US and Israel reportedly targeted Iranian nuclear sites in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow during the weekend. The Fordow site is a key location for uranium enrichment. Sources indicated that the US may have employed B-2 bombers to deploy bunker buster bombs. In public remarks, President Trump warned Iran of further action if a peaceful settlement isn’t reached.
