The Indian Embassy in Iran has begun to reduce its evacuation operations for Indian nationals. This decision follows the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran on Tuesday. The embassy had initiated the evacuation process due to heightened regional tensions. The embassy announced the closure of its contact desk for new evacuation registrations. However, it stated that it would continue monitoring the security situation closely. Indians in other parts of Iran who planned to travel to Mashhad for evacuation are advised to stay in their current locations and monitor news updates from the embassy. Those who had already arrived in Mashhad and were staying in embassy-arranged hotels were instructed to move to the Sadr Hotel by Wednesday. The embassy will maintain rooms at the Sadr Hotel until June 26 to allow citizens time to assess the normalization of the security situation. The ceasefire was announced after escalating conflict, including attacks on US military bases and strikes on Iranian facilities. Despite the ceasefire, there were reports of limited strikes and missile launches. Subsequently, after a conversation between Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, Israel has ‘refrained’ from further attacks on Iran. Further, a special flight carrying 282 Indian nationals stranded in conflict-hit Iran landed safely in New Delhi on Wednesday, taking the total number of people evacuated under Operation Sindhu to 2,858.
