In Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, a Sarpanch and a Gram Panchayat Secretary have been arrested following allegations of embezzling government funds. The accused allegedly misappropriated ₹18.42 lakh from the public exchequer. The arrests were made after a complaint was filed, leading to a police investigation. The incident occurred in the Arrahanpur police station area, where the then Sarpanch of Nilavaya Gram Panchayat, Ramesh Korram, and Secretary Anoj Kumar Mandavi were implicated. They are accused of irregularities in the use of funds allocated for basic and construction work in the Nilavaya Gram Panchayat during the years 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2024-2025. A three-member inquiry committee was formed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Panchayat Dantewada based on the complaint. Following the inquiry, the police filed a case under sections of the BNS 2023 against the accused. The investigation was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials, and the arrests took place on June 23rd and 24th. The accused have been presented before the court on judicial remand. The arrested individuals include Anoj Kumar Mandavi, the former Gram Panchayat Secretary, and Ramesh Korram, the former Sarpanch of Nilavaya.
