The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent north Odisha-West Bengal coasts within the next 24 hours. This weather system is poised to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Odisha, lasting until June 28. A red warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts for June 25, with forecasts of extremely heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. Similar conditions are also anticipated in several other districts, including Balasore, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Bhadrak. Heavy rain is also expected in Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, and Ganjam. The intensity of the rainfall is expected to gradually decrease thereafter. The IMD has also cautioned of squally weather with strong winds along the Odisha coast, advising fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.
