Police in Lohardaga have apprehended two members of the banned PLFI (People’s Liberation Front of India) militant group. The arrests were made by the Kuru police station after the individuals arrived to collect extortion money. According to the Lohardaga SP, Sadiq Anwar Rizvi, the PLFI had been demanding levy from a contractor involved in the construction of a culvert in the Lawagai area. Threats of violence and arson were issued if the money wasn’t paid. Recently, an attempt was made to set fire to vehicles involved in the construction, and posters were put up in the name of the PLFI. The police set a trap, luring the naxalites to collect the extortion money. They were caught red-handed with 30,000 rupees. The arrested individuals have been identified as Nikhil Munda alias Pintoo and Sunil Sanga, residents of Ghaghra village in Khunti district. Lohardaga police are now actively pursuing the mastermind and other members of the PLFI.
