In Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, two Sanjal breed horses were euthanized via lethal injection after being diagnosed with glanders, a dangerous disease. Veterinary officials administered the injections according to established protocols. The bodies were buried in Bhittikla, near the city. Glanders primarily affects horses, mules, and donkeys, but can also infect humans. A resident of Nawapara had been using the horses for wedding ceremonies. After a horse showed symptoms, both animals were tested. After four tests yielded mixed results, a fifth test confirmed both horses were infected. Authorities have banned the entry of horse-related animals into Ambikapur for three months and are tracing contacts.
