The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Rajesh Devgam, an individual linked to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), in Ranchi. The chargesheet, filed in a special NIA court, pertains to allegations of possessing weapons, collecting extortion money, and providing shelter to cadres of the banned organization. The NIA stated that the charges relate to Devgam’s involvement in activities within Jharkhand. Devgam, a resident of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The case originated from a local police investigation concerning the recovery of a large amount of money and objectionable materials linked to a key CPI (Maoist) member, Misir Besra, in March 2024. Investigations by the NIA, which took over the case in July 2024, revealed Devgam’s active collaboration in terrorist activities, including organizing meetings and extorting money from contractors and traders.
