Bihar has become the first state in the country to formulate a comprehensive health and welfare policy specifically designed for female athletes. The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Sports, Bihar State Sports Authority, and the government, aims to address the unique physical and psychological needs of women in sports. The draft of the Bihar Women Athlete Health and Welfare Policy-2025 was thoroughly discussed, with participation from various sports experts and women specialists from diverse fields. Key figures like Ravindran Shankaran, Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority, and others were present to provide insights.
The policy acknowledges the growing participation of women in sports at both grassroots and elite levels in Bihar over the last decade. Recognizing that existing sports systems often don’t cater to female athletes’ specific needs, the policy addresses crucial aspects such as menstrual health, nutrition, and psychological support. With the goal of enhancing performance and increasing medal prospects for the state and the nation, the policy seeks to create a more supportive environment for women athletes.
