The Birsa Zoological Garden in Ormanjhi, Jharkhand, has welcomed a new and adorable addition. The zoo’s hippopotamus, Lily, gave birth to a healthy baby on July 2nd. This marks Lily’s fifth offspring, with her first born on October 3, 2016. The zoo is home to a total of nine hippos, including the newborn and its mother, Lily. Visitors can soon catch a glimpse of the baby hippo as it explores the zoo with its mother. The zoo management is taking special care of Lily, providing her with multivitamins to ensure the baby receives adequate milk and grows quickly. The zoo acquired two hippos from Mysore in 2008, but one died shortly after due to a snake bite. The remaining male hippo, named Lalu, has been a resident since then. Lily was brought to the zoo from Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha in September 2014.
