UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini has decried the situation in Gaza, stating it has become a ‘graveyard of children and starving people.’ He also accused Tel Aviv of engineering a ‘cruel and Machiavellian scheme to kill’ in the region. Reports indicate nearly 800 Palestinians have been killed near aid distribution sites. Lazzarini’s comments followed an incident where Israeli military forces killed 15 people, including children and women, who were waiting for nutritional supplements. Furthermore, according to the UN human rights office, nearly 800 killings have been recorded near aid points in Gaza between May and July 7. Reports from sources like Haaretz and The Associated Press reveal that Israeli soldiers and US contractors have admitted to shooting unarmed Palestinians seeking food. The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that the situation is the worst it has ever seen, while acknowledging they have food supplies that cannot get into Gaza.
