The Assam government is set to bolster the state’s healthcare infrastructure with a new medical college and hospital in Darrang district. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently inspected the proposed site in Punia, Darrang. During his upcoming visit on September 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the project. Furthermore, the Prime Minister is likely to inaugurate the Narengi-Kurua bridge over the Brahmaputra River and the Guwahati Ring Road project from the same location. These initiatives are part of a broader development plan, with projects worth approximately Rs 8,000 crore scheduled to be initiated from Punia. The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of this infrastructure for Darrang, now a district, and emphasized the importance of local cooperation for timely project completion. The government is also considering a medical college in Udalguri district, with instructions to preserve existing trees during site development.
