Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, is experiencing heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day. The Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash floods, and potential landslides within the next 24 hours. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the Amarnath Yatra is proceeding smoothly, with pilgrims continuing their Darshan at the holy cave. Authorities are closely monitoring the pilgrimage routes from both Pahalgam and Baltal, taking all necessary safety precautions. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of MET in Srinagar, predicts generally cloudy weather with intermittent rain and thundershowers from July 16-17 and July 21-23, with intense showers expected. Scattered rain or thundershowers are also forecast for July 18-20. The advisory warns of flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones. Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel. In related news, a road accident on the Srinagar-Leh highway near Gumri-Drass claimed two lives and injured several others.
