In the Amleshwar police station area, two minors drowned in the Khairun River. The incident occurred on Wednesday when six friends went for a swim. During the swim, two youths were caught in a strong current and whirlpool, leading to their drowning. On Thursday, the SDRF team recovered the body of a 16-year-old minor in the morning. The search for the other youth, a 15-year-old, is still ongoing.
According to information, the deceased has been identified as Ashish Saroj (16 years old), son of Pankaj Saroj, a resident of Bajrang Nagar Ward 37. He had gone to the Khairun River in the Amleshwar police station area for a swim with five minor friends from Jamraw village. While swimming, Ashish and his friend Yashwant Harpal (15 years old) were swept away by the strong current and whirlpool. Seeing them drowning, the other four friends raised an alarm and called for help from nearby people. The people immediately informed the police about the incident and tried to find and rescue the drowning minors, but they were unsuccessful.
SDRF team conducted a deep diving operation throughout the night, spanning eight hours. However, both could not be found. This morning, experienced deep-diving soldiers Indrapal Yadav and Rajkumar Yadav recovered Ashish’s body from the river after two hours of effort and handed it over to the police. But Yashwant has not been found yet. The search for Yashwant is still ongoing.
The police have sent Ashish’s body to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Supela for a post-mortem. There is a wave of mourning in the village and among the families due to the incident.
