Shortly after, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit the Nicobar Islands around 12:12 am IST, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was approximately 259 km west-northwest of Sabang, Indonesia. Despite the strength of the quakes, neither triggered a tsunami alert, according to the United States Geological Survey and the Tsunami Warning System.
