Following the passing of Shibu Soren, the founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his grief. Shibu Soren, who had been unwell for a long time, breathed his last at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. Hemant Soren shared his emotions on the social media platform X, writing that he was going through the most difficult days of his life, having lost not just a father but also a pillar of Jharkhand’s soul.
Hemant Soren described his father as a guide, the roots of his thoughts, and a protective figure for the people of Jharkhand. He recounted his father’s humble beginnings in a small village where there was poverty and hunger, but also courage. He mentioned how his father lost his own father early in life. He witnessed his father working in the fields, sitting among the people, and sharing their suffering. When he asked why his father was called ‘Dishom Guru,’ his father would respond that it was because he understood the people’s pain and made their struggles his own. He noted that the title came from the hearts of the people, not from any book or parliament, and that his father taught them not just the way, but how to walk it.
Hemant Soren wrote that he had seen his father facing challenges, and while he would be afraid, his father never was. He recalled his father saying that if standing against injustice was a crime, he would be guilty repeatedly. He remembered his father’s struggle being evident in his sweat, his voice, and his worn sandals. He stated that when Jharkhand state was formed, his father’s dream came true, but he never considered power an achievement. Hemant Soren concluded by saying his father lives on in every path, every beat of the drums, every field, and every poor person’s eyes in Jharkhand. He vowed to uphold his father’s legacy, to never let Jharkhand bow down, and to fulfill his father’s unfinished struggle.
