Gautam Adani, the owner of the Adani Group, met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday. Discussions during the meeting revolved around various projects, with a particular focus on the current status of the Tajpur port. The Bengal government recently decided to issue a new tender for this port. It is believed that Adani and CM Mamata discussed this matter during their meeting.
Several reasons are being suggested for the meeting between Adani and CM Mamata. However, the Tajpur port is currently the most discussed topic. The Bengal government recently terminated the four-year-old partnership with the Adani Group for the Tajpur port project, which is estimated to cost Rs 25,000 crore. Along with this, the decision to issue a new tender has been made.
The Tajpur port is considered a strategic infrastructure project for eastern India. Therefore, both the Bengal government and the Adani Group have their eyes on it. However, neither the West Bengal government nor the Adani Group has provided any information about the discussions held during this meeting.
Conversation Lasted for an Hour
The Bengal government has not clarified the status of the Tajpur port after Gautam Adani’s meeting. Additionally, the state government has not yet stated whether the tender given to the Adani Group has been canceled or not. This is why many meanings are being derived from this meeting. CM Mamata and Gautam Adani had a conversation for about 1 hour.
Adani and Mamata Have Met Before
This meeting between Gautam Adani and CM Mamata Banerjee is not the first time. Both have met on several occasions before. In 2021, Gautam Adani and CM Mamata met. Following this, Adani participated in the ‘Bengal Global Business Summit’ in 2022.
