The highly anticipated sequels, ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’, debuted in theaters on August 1st. ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, starring Ajay Devgn, offers a comedic narrative, while ‘Dhadak 2’ presents a fresh romantic story featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Both films generated considerable pre-release interest, but audience and critical reactions have varied. The films are competing for viewers alongside established hits like ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’.
‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ initially performed well at the box office, earning Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day. The film saw consistent growth over the weekend, with Rs 8.25 crore on Day 2 (a 13.79% increase) and Rs 9.25 crore on Day 3 (a 12.12% increase). However, the momentum significantly slowed on Day 4, with collections dropping to Rs 2.35 crore, a sharp 74.59% decline. On Day 5, a slight recovery brought in Rs 2.50 crore (based on early estimates), bringing the total five-day collection to Rs 29.60 crore.
With a total of Rs 29.60 crore, ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ is approaching the Rs 30 crore mark at the box office. The response to Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ has been less than stellar, receiving mixed to negative reviews. Earlier this year, ‘Raid 2’ had a much stronger opening, earning Rs 19.25 crore on its first day. Positive reviews and word of mouth propelled the film past Rs 100 crore quickly.
Besides Ajay Devgn, the film stars Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra. The film also features the late actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025, shortly before the film’s release. The first part of ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ was released in 2012 and starred Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla, and Sanjay Dutt.
‘Dhadak 2’ had a modest start, collecting Rs 3.5 crore on its opening day. The film showed a slight upward trend over the weekend, earning Rs 3.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 4.15 crore on Day 3, totaling Rs 11.4 crore for the first weekend. However, the momentum decreased sharply on Day 4, with collections dropping to Rs 1.35 crore, a significant decline of over 67%. On Day 5, the film is estimated to have earned approximately Rs 1.60 crore, taking the total collection to about Rs 14.35 crore.
The opening weekend showed promise, but the weekday drop suggests ‘Dhadak 2’ faces challenges in sustaining its box office performance. The romantic drama faces competition from ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and is also contending with the ongoing success of ‘Saiyaara’ and the animated film ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’.
‘Dhadak 2’, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, explores themes of caste and social discrimination. It tells the story of two law students whose relationship faces trials. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film is a spiritual successor to the 2018 romantic drama ‘Dhadak’. The film also features Vipin Sharma, Manjiri Pupala, Deeksha Joshi, Priyank Tiwari, Amit Jaat, Mayank Khanna, and Ashwant Lodhi.
