With upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, Union Minister Chirag Paswan has been consistently criticizing the Nitish Kumar government regarding law and order. Despite being a part of the NDA, Paswan’s sharp remarks against the state government have repeatedly caused problems for the BJP-led coalition. The BJP leadership is now taking on a guardian role to prevent such issues from arising in the future.
In recent months, there has been a rapid decline in law and order in Bihar. Incidents of shootings and murders have not only worried the Nitish Kumar government but also caused the NDA trouble due to Chirag Paswan’s statements questioning the law and order situation. His statements have provided the opposition with an opportunity to attack the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar.
Furthermore, Paswan, despite being a Union Minister in the central government, has repeatedly expressed his intention to contest the assembly elections in the state on public platforms, creating confusion among NDA leaders. Disturbed by his statements, the BJP’s top leadership met with him. During the meeting, a senior BJP leader explained to Chirag Paswan that such statements not only create confusion among the public regarding the NDA but also lead to uncertainty among leaders and workers.
According to sources, the BJP leadership will soon have another meeting with Chirag, where he may be advised to avoid controversial statements in view of the Bihar elections, demonstrate unity with the NDA, and refrain from making statements that create confusion about the leadership.
Sources close to the party suggest that while this approach of Chirag Paswan’s politics may align with his youthful image and sharp demeanor, it is not the right approach for NDA unity. Moreover, Chirag, through his statements, gives leaders of the opposition grand alliance an opportunity to target the Nitish government.
During the meeting, the top leadership of the BJP will also explain to Chirag Paswan that he is still young, has a strong hold on a voter base, and time and age are in his favor, making his political future bright. Therefore, such statements do not resonate with the public and the voters’ sentiments.
NDA leaders assess that if there is a close electoral fight between the two alliances in Bihar, even a few votes can bring about significant changes in the results. In such a situation, it is essential for the NDA to speak with one voice. Therefore, the top leadership of the BJP will advise Chirag Paswan to exercise restraint in his statements.
The BJP is also concerned about the aggressive statements of Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan because in the last assembly elections, Chirag Paswan caused significant damage to the NDA and especially the JDU.
