A major incident has occurred in Chandil, Jharkhand. At approximately 4:15 AM on Friday, two goods trains collided near pole number 375/22, adjacent to the Chandil railway station of the Adra railway division. The collision was so severe that several coaches of both trains derailed, and the locomotives were badly damaged. Debris from the accident has spread across the tracks, completely halting operations on both up and down lines.
According to initial reports, one goods train was traveling from Tatanagar towards Bokaro, while the other was heading from Bokaro to Tatanagar. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible technical fault in the signaling system. However, senior railway officials are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Local sources indicate that one goods train was en route from Tatanagar to Purulia. After passing the Chandil station, it derailed. Several coaches of the derailed goods train ended up on the opposite track.
During this time, another goods train traveling in the opposite direction collided with those derailed coaches, causing several coaches of the second train to also derail. The accident took place between Pitki railway gate and Chandil station.
All passenger and goods train operations on the Chandil-Tatanagar and Chandil-Bokaro routes have been cancelled. Several trains have been cancelled, diverted, or short-terminated.
It may take at least 24 hours to restore the track to normal operations. Senior railway officials have arrived at the scene to assess the situation, and relief and repair work has commenced.
