World No. 1 Jannik Sinner commenced his Cincinnati Open campaign with a decisive victory, overpowering Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in a mere 59 minutes. Displaying exceptional form, the Italian player swiftly advanced to the next round, showcasing his title aspirations with a commanding performance.
Returning to the court after his record-breaking Wimbledon win against Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner demonstrated remarkable sharpness on the hard courts. He seamlessly transitioned from grass to hard court, exhibiting clinical ball-striking and relentless aggression from the baseline.
The initial set saw Sinner take a commanding 5-0 lead within the first 15 minutes, leaving Galan, ranked No. 144 in the world, struggling to find his footing. The 23-year-old maintained his momentum into the second set, securing a break and finishing with three aces, resulting in the quickest ATP Tour victory of his career.
Following his win, Sinner discussed his performance, reflecting on the challenges of playing in Cincinnati, and how he managed to perform so well. He stated, “I didn’t know what to expect. I am happy because it’s not easy to play here. The ball is flying, and you have to serve very precisely if you want to go far in the tournament.”
This victory also marks Sinner’s 22nd consecutive hard-court win, a streak dating back to last September’s final loss against Alcaraz in Beijing. Since winning the Cincinnati title in 2024, Sinner has maintained an impressive 48-2 record in major events, solidifying his status as a formidable competitor.
With his focus set on retaining his title, Sinner will now compete in the round of 32, facing Canada’s Gabriel Diallo.
