The past week has been incredibly challenging for England cricketer Jos Buttler. He experienced the loss of his father, John Buttler. Despite the immense grief, Buttler played a match for his team, Manchester Originals, in The Hundred. Following the game, Buttler shared a heartfelt farewell to his father.
Following his father’s passing, Buttler played his first match on August 9th for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred. The performance was visibly affected by the loss, as Buttler was unable to score any runs, getting out for zero after facing four balls. The entire Manchester Originals team wore black armbands during the match on August 9th in memory of Buttler’s father.
Buttler paid his final respects through an Instagram story, expressing his sentiments. He wrote, “Rest in peace, Dad. Thank you for everything you gave me.” Buttler had played his first match of The Hundred 2025 season on August 6th. The second match, played on August 9th, was his first after his father’s death. During the first match of The Hundred 2025, Buttler scored 22 runs.
