Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has voiced his support for the Supreme Court’s directives concerning stray dogs. He emphasized that the court’s instructions should be implemented in every city and town. Chidambaram, in a tweet, stated that collecting stray dogs and housing them in proper dog shelters is not a difficult task, requiring only government or municipal land on the outskirts of the city. He suggested that the land should be leveled and fenced, providing a secure space for the dogs. He also highlighted the importance of providing food and water, noting that there are affordable methods for doing so. Chidambaram further added that while various strategies could be considered over time, the primary goal should be to gather stray dogs and place them in safe locations. He stressed that roads should be safe and accessible for all, particularly children and the elderly. The Supreme Court has ordered the capture of all stray dogs within 8 weeks in Delhi-NCR, in response to the growing problem of stray dogs. The court has also directed that these dogs be housed in safe locations, and that any resistance to the order would result in strict action.
