The conversation occurred amidst trade tensions between India and the US, along with allegations that India’s oil purchases from Russia indirectly support Moscow’s actions against Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs has responded, pointing out that other nations also import oil from Russia. Additionally, the official reply revealed that the United States itself imports certain metals from Russia. Before speaking with Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Modi had been in communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva. During his conversation with President Lula, Modi discussed deepening strategic partnerships, including in trade, energy, technology, defense, and health.
