With the Asia Cup 2025 set to begin in the UAE on September 9th, the Indian team announcement is expected on August 19th or 20th. There’s speculation about the availability of India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, potentially opening the door for Test captain Shubman Gill to lead the team. While the official team is yet to be revealed, some players are already in intense training. Among them is Sanju Samson, who is currently practicing with the Kerala Police. He shared this update on social media.
Samson, the wicketkeeper-batsman, has been away from the field since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He is considered a strong contender for a spot in the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025. Samson’s last international match was against England in February 2025. In a five-match T20I series against England, Samson scored 51 runs. Despite this, Samson has a decent T20I record, having played 42 matches, scoring 861 runs in 38 innings at an average of 25.32, including three centuries and two half-centuries. He has also played 16 ODIs for India, scoring 510 runs in 14 innings at an average of 56.66, including one century and three half-centuries.
The Asia Cup will see India in Group A alongside Pakistan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
