India observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14th, marking 78 years since the nation’s division into India and Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the suffering experienced by countless individuals during that turbulent period. The day serves to honor their courage and resilience in the face of unimaginable loss and hardship. Many who were affected rebuilt their lives and achieved success. This day also reminds us of our responsibility to strengthen the bonds that unite our country. Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences, stating that the Congress party was responsible for dividing the nation. The division led to violence, exploitation, and atrocities, displacing millions. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute, remembering the painful chapter of 1947 and the loss of life and property. He emphasized the nation’s commitment to strengthening social harmony. India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. The sweetness of independence is intertwined with the bitter memory of partition, which caused one of the largest migrations in human history, affecting approximately 20 million people. Millions of families were forced to leave their ancestral homes and seek new lives as refugees.
