Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav has strongly criticized the Modi government, asserting that the current state of the nation is even more dire than the Emergency period. His remarks came during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ initiated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Bihar, which aims to address concerns regarding voter list revisions and alleged vote theft. Yadav emphasized his commitment to protecting democracy, stating that he and his party have made numerous sacrifices for its preservation and will continue to do so. He expressed these sentiments alongside his son, Tejashwi Yadav, highlighting the participation of Rahul Gandhi in the yatra as a positive development.
Tejashwi Yadav, also an RJD leader, accused the BJP of misusing constitutional institutions and vowed to fight against any attempts to undermine the people’s right to vote. He highlighted that the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ is scheduled to commence on August 17th and will continue for 16 days, covering approximately 1300 kilometers. The yatra will involve direct interactions with the public across more than 20 districts, culminating in a gathering at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on September 1st.
