Elections in Bangladesh have been announced, but skepticism lingers regarding the intentions of the chief advisor. Kader Siddiqui, the founder of the Krishak Sramik Janata League, has issued a warning that if elections are not held in February, the consequences for Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus could be more severe than those faced by the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Yunus has been in control of Bangladesh for the past year. After Sheikh Hasina’s departure from the country, he assumed power, initially promising elections within six months. However, the delay in holding elections prompted protests from various political parties, forcing Yunus to announce election dates.
Speaking at the Makrai Day ceremony of the Kadaria Bahini freedom fighters, Kader Siddiqui stated, “I respect Professor Yunus, but if elections are not held in February, your fate will be ten times worse than Sheikh Hasina’s.” Furthermore, during his address, Kader targeted Yunus and his close associate, Nahid Islam, questioning the latter’s stance on the nation’s heritage. He criticized attacks on Bangladesh’s legacy, referencing the internal government’s perceived disrespect towards Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Kader supported the anti-discrimination movement, emphasizing that Sheikh Hasina’s removal was ordained by Allah, not by the intentions of any individual. He clarified that Nahid or Yunus were not responsible, but rather, it was a consequence of the people taking to the streets. He also declared that he would fight against any attempts to wrong Sheikh Hasina.
Addressing the call for Sheikh Hasina’s punishment, Kader asserted that any decision regarding her should be made according to the law, including punishment if necessary. He stated, “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina are not the same. As long as Bangladesh exists, ‘Joy Bangla’ will endure.” He added, “If anyone tries to do anything wrong against her, I will fight against it as long as I live.”
