External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to India on August 18-19, 2025, at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval. During their bilateral meeting, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of border issues, stating that maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas is crucial for positive relations. He also highlighted the need for the de-escalation process to move forward. Discussions naturally extended to the international situation, with Jaishankar advocating for a fair, balanced, and multipolar world order, including a multipolar Asia. He also emphasized the importance of reforming multilateralism and maintaining stability in the global economy. The fight against terrorism was another major priority. Wang Yi noted the maintenance of peace and tranquility in border areas and the resumption of Indian pilgrimages to Mount Gang Renpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso in the Xijang Autonomous Region. He expressed confidence in dispelling interference, expanding cooperation, and further consolidating the momentum of improvement and development of China-India relations. Wang Yi is scheduled to hold the 24th round of Special Representatives’ Talks on the India-China boundary question with India’s NSA, Doval.
