In the wake of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Putin. The discussions, held on Monday, touched upon the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has persisted since February 2022. Modi reiterated India’s stance, advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The Prime Minister’s office also noted that the leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and agreed to maintain close contact. Modi later expressed his gratitude to President Putin via social media for sharing insights from the Alaska meeting. The Alaska talks were focused on finding a permanent end to the war in Ukraine. Putin, after meeting with Trump, stated that the discussion aimed to find ways to end the war ‘on a fair basis.’ Trump, while calling the meeting ‘very productive,’ refrained from providing specifics and pressured Ukraine to accept Russia’s ceasefire terms. The call occurred just hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was scheduled to meet with Donald Trump at the White House.
