During a public hearing at her residence on Wednesday morning, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was assaulted by 41-year-old Rajesh Khimji Sakaria from Rajkot, Gujarat. The CM sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention. According to reports, Sakaria’s mother revealed the reason for the attack, stating that her son, a passionate dog lover, was angered by the ongoing controversy surrounding the treatment of stray dogs in Delhi, specifically the issue of sending dogs to shelter homes. She said her son was upset by a Supreme Court order concerning stray dogs and left for Delhi soon after. The meeting, ‘Jan Sunwai,’ had begun at 7 am. Around 8 am, Sakaria approached the CM, handed her a paper, shouted, and allegedly slapped her, pulled her hair, and abused her. Security personnel intervened, arresting him on the spot. He was taken to the Civil Lines police station for questioning, and Delhi Police are coordinating with Gujarat authorities to verify his details. CM Gupta received a medical check-up. The Delhi BJP president mentioned the CM was shaken but safe. The Delhi Police Commissioner visited the scene, and an official statement is expected.
