The Lok Sabha recently approved the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. This legislation marks a significant step in regulating India’s rapidly expanding online gaming sector. The Bill aims to foster growth in specific areas while imposing restrictions on others.
Introduced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Bill seeks to achieve two primary objectives. It encourages the expansion of e-sports and educational gaming while simultaneously prohibiting real-money online gaming (RMG), regardless of whether the games involve skill or chance.
This new law is expected to significantly impact India’s digital entertainment and gaming landscape, affecting gaming platforms, fintech payment systems, advertisers, influencers, and users alike.
