Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin voiced strong disapproval of the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill on Wednesday. The bill proposes the removal of an elected Chief Minister if arrested for 30 days. Stalin condemned the bill, viewing it as an assault on the Constitution and its democratic principles. He urged all democratic factions to unite against what he perceives as an attempt to establish a dictatorship in India. In a social media post, Stalin described the bill as a manifestation of dictatorial tactics, highlighting the potential for misuse. He stated that the Union BJP Government aims to undermine the Constitution and democratic values, potentially diverting attention from electoral irregularities. Stalin expressed concern that the bill could be used to falsely accuse political opponents, enabling their removal without due process. He warned that the proposed amendment would likely be challenged in court. Furthermore, Stalin suggested that the bill is a tactic to pressure regional parties within the NDA. He cautioned the nation about the potential slide towards authoritarianism.
